The Election Commission of India (ECI) has officially announced that the Delhi Assembly Elections will be held on February 5, 2025. The elections will take place in a single phase across all 70 constituencies of the National Capital Territory. The counting of votes and declaration of results are scheduled for February 8, 2025.
This announcement comes as the tenure of the current Delhi Legislative Assembly is set to conclude on February 15, 2025. The previous assembly elections, held in February 2020, resulted in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) securing a significant majority, with Arvind Kejriwal serving as Chief Minister. In September 2024, Kejriwal resigned, and Atishi Marlena was appointed as the new Chief Minister.
The upcoming elections are anticipated to be a triangular contest among the incumbent AAP, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Indian National Congress (INC). All parties are expected to intensify their campaigns in the coming weeks, focusing on key issues such as governance, development, and public welfare.
The ECI has emphasized its commitment to ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections. Preparations are underway to update electoral rolls, set up polling stations, and deploy adequate security measures to facilitate smooth conduct during the election period.
Voters in Delhi are advised to verify their enrollment status and familiarize themselves with the voting process to participate actively in the democratic exercise. The forthcoming elections will play a crucial role in shaping the future governance of the national capital.
